Frequently asked questions
Everything you want to know about collision repair, insurance claims and working with Collision Icon.
General questions
Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?
No. Michigan law gives you the right to choose your repair shop. You can bring your car to Collision Icon regardless of your insurer.
Are estimates free?
Yes. Estimates are always free and there is no obligation.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome for estimates during business hours. You can also request an estimate online and we will contact you to schedule.
What are your hours?
Monday through Friday 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM. Closed Sunday.
Where are you located?
21380 Coolidge Hwy, Bldg A, Oak Park, MI 48237, on Coolidge Highway just north of 8 Mile Road.
Do you offer towing and rental cars?
Yes. We arrange towing to our shop and help coordinate a rental through your insurance.
Can you help with my deductible?
Ask us. We work to keep your out-of-pocket cost as low as possible and will explain your options.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, flexible financing options are available for repairs, deductibles and upgrades. Ask us for details.
Do you do mechanical work?
Yes. We handle diagnostics, brakes, suspension, electrical, cooling and maintenance in addition to collision repair.
Repair questions
Do I need three estimates before my repair?
No. Most insurance companies only require one estimate. Bring your car to the shop you trust, and we will work directly with your adjuster.
How long will my collision repair take?
Light repairs often take a few days; heavier damage can take longer depending on parts and insurance approvals. We give you a realistic timeline after the estimate and keep you updated along the way.
Can I drive my car to the shop after an accident?
Only if it is safe: no warning lights, leaking fluids, loose parts or lighting damage. If you are unsure, call us and we will arrange a tow.
Will the new paint match the rest of my car?
Yes. We color-match to your actual vehicle, not just the paint code, and blend into neighboring panels so the transition is invisible.
How soon can I wash my car after paint work?
Hand washing is fine after about a week. Wait at least 30 days before waxing or using an automatic car wash so the clear coat can fully cure.
Is a car with frame damage a total loss?
Not necessarily. Many vehicles with frame or unibody damage can be safely repaired. Your insurer decides total loss based on repair cost versus value. We will give you an honest assessment either way.
How do I know if my frame is damaged?
Warning signs include uneven gaps between panels, doors or trunk that do not close properly, the car pulling to one side, or unusual tire wear after an accident. A measurement is the only way to know for sure.
Is it worth fixing a small dent?
Usually, yes. Small repairs are inexpensive compared with the hit to resale or trade-in value, and dents with cracked paint can rust if left alone.
Does insurance cover hail damage?
Hail is typically covered under comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible. We can help you file and work with your adjuster.
Can a cracked bumper be repaired?
Many plastic bumper cracks can be repaired with plastic welding and refinishing. If the cracks reach mounting points or the bumper is badly deformed, replacement is the safer choice.
Do you do mechanical work if I have not been in an accident?
Yes. We handle everyday mechanical repair and maintenance, not just accident-related work.
Can you fix mechanical damage from my accident under my insurance claim?
Yes. Accident-related mechanical damage like radiators, suspension and wiring is typically part of your collision claim, and we include it in the repair.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
It depends on the product and how the vehicle is maintained, but a professional ceramic coating typically lasts years, far longer than wax or sealant.
Can I add accessories while my car is in for collision repair?
Absolutely. It is a great time to do it. Ask us and we will coordinate the work so everything is done in one visit.
